15 Week Appointment

This was a pretty simple appointment, they drew blood to test for spina bifida, I've gained 4 pounds in the past 5 weeks which is right on schedule. I also got to hear the baby's heartbeat, which was comforting.
The doctor also checked out a lump that I have in my right armpit, I've noticed it coming on since the beginning of the pregnancy. She thinks it might be ectopic breast tissue, which is basically breast tissue where it shouldn't be and was always there but became enlarged from the hormones in my body. I have an appointment with a breast specialist to have an ultrasound of the lump to check it out.

The Almighty Belly

Today feels like a good day, I seem to be having more of those lately but the unfriendly symptoms are still lurking in the shadows and I tend not to have 2 good days in a row. So here I am at 14 weeks, you have to get the picture at the right angle or else it'll just look like a fat belly. Depending on the time of day and when I have my shirt pulled down, my stomach looks HUGE, mainly because after a full day of eating I am really bloated and my entire abdomen sticks out and you would think I was 6 months pregnant. Right now, from head to bottom, the baby is between 3-4 inches and weighs a mere 1.5 ounces.

Yesterday morning I woke up and felt like something was lightly tickling my stomach, so I moved my hand under the blanket and there was nothing there, and again felt the tickling. If that was the baby moving inside I look forward to feeling it again because it was pretty cool. I also have been eating much better now that I don't feel desperately hungry all the time, although I still have nights where I wake up at 2-3am and have to go down for a bite to eat. Depending on the day also, opening my refrigerator isn't so disgusting - somedays I don't smell anything and then others the brief whiff of the food in there will hit my automatic gag reflex.

My next doctor's appointment is March 25th, but no ultrasound, I have another appointment april 15th (I think that's when it is), and they will do one then.

2nd trimester starts..... NOW!

Yesterday marked the last day of my first trimester, yay! My body celebrated by rejecting every form of liquid & food that I tried to digest on Monday & yesterday. I thought perhaps on Monday that it was caused by a nasty headache that I had, however on Tuesday the headache was gone, but by the afternoon I realized the vomiting was still in full swing. I did end up talking to the physician on call and he gave me a small prescription for Zofran to ease the nausea & vomiting. It was very likely that I was becoming dehydrated and that if I didn't do something about it I would have to go to the ER and get fluids put in me through an IV, and that was not of interest to me unless it was absolutely necessary. Luckily last night the Zofran worked & I ate a few bites of food & was able to get some fluids in me.
